Scholarship Details

The Board of Trustees makes awards up to $5,000.00 to selected applicants each year.  Must be 21 at the time of enrollment.


Scholarship monies may be used toward tuition, fees, materials, and other associated educational expenses (not living expenses).


Awards are paid directly to educational institutions on behalf of the recipients. 


 The Board's Applicant Screening Committee conducts personal interviews with the top applicants and selections are made accordingly.


 The Board selects award recipients based on eligibility criteria and interview results.

ELIGIBILITY

  Applicants for the Jessamine S. Henderson Memorial Adult Education Scholarship must the following eligibility requirements. 

  • 21 years of age or older at times of Enrollment.
  • A resident of Somerset or Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
  • Serious about pursuing a career-related program of study.
  • A demonstrated need of financial assistance.
  • A high school graduate or possesses a General Education Development (GED) diploma.
  • Applicants shall have already applied to or shall be in the process of applying to the program/institution of their choice for which they are seeking financial assistance.
  •   Before funds are provided recipients shall have obtained official acceptance into the program/institution of their choice and shall provide official written documentation to the Board of Trustees certifying acceptance/registration.
  • Further, all J.S. Henderson Scholarship recipients are obliged to use their award no later than 180 days after the Award Dinner.  Subject to this policy, the J.S. Henderson Scholarship Fund will make payments to designated programs/institutions and/or their related agencies (e.g., institutional bookstores or any other institutional affiliations deemed appropriate by the Board of Trustees).  Under no circumstances will scholarship awards be paid to the individual recipients. Awards are paid directly to the educational institutions the recipients are attending.  


The Board of Trustees gives first consideration to applicants who have had little or no opportunity to pursue any education or training beyond a high school diploma. However, those persons who already have a partial or complete college education or vocational training, and who are seeking to prepare for other career paths, are encouraged to apply.  The Fund does not make any awards for graduate school education.  Since the J. S.
